A Lesson Before Dying

From the 1940s South, an African American man is accused of the murdering a a white storeowner. His white attorney equates him with a lowly hog, to signify he didn't have the sense to know exactly what he was doing. Yet convicted, he is sentenced to perish, but his godmother and the goddess of the area school teacher convince school teacher go to the condemned man's cell to attempt to reaffirm which he is not an animal but a guy with dignity.
