Betrayed
German concentration camps deport and kill millions of European Jews during World War II. Norwegian Jews are safe from German invasion. Anti-Semitism is global, and the war in Europe transforms the situation. Suddenly, their radios are taken away, their passports are marked with a huge J, and all men over 15 are detained and brought to prison camps. Many of the women left behind are too frightened to escape and are desperately waiting for their husbands and sons to come back home. Police take hundreds of Jews to Oslo's dock in the middle of the night on November 26, 1942. Unknowing and frightened people are forced onto the German cargo ship "SS DONAU." The ship departs with 532 Norwegian Jews—302 adults, 188 women, and 42 children. Auschwitz is final.
