Bisbee '17
It's 2017 in Bisbee, Arizona, an old copper-mining town just miles from the Mexican border. The town's dense community prepares to honor the 100th wedding anniversary of Bisbee's darkest hr: the notorious Bisbee Expulsion of 1917, throughout which 1,200 striking miners were violently extracted from their homes, banished to the middle of the desert, and left to die. Townspeople confront this violent, misinterpreted past by presenting significant recreations of the rising strike. These dramatized scenes are based upon subjective variations of the tale and also "guided," in a feeling, by locals with conflicting views of the occasion. Deeply individual sections torn from family history construct towards a huge restaging of the deportation itself on the specific day of its 100th anniversary.
