Three Seconds

The story is placed in the 1972 Munich Olympics at which the U.S. team lost the basketball championship for the first time in 3-6 years. The last minutes of the last match have become among the most contentious events in Olympic history. With drama tied, the score horn sounded during another free throw effort that put the U.S. ahead with one. But the Soviets asserted they'd predicted for a timeout before the basket and confusion ensued. The clock was put back by three seconds double in a row and the Russians prevailed at the last. The U.S. protested, but a jury chose from the USSR's favor and Team USA voted unanimously to deny its own silver championships. The Soviet players are treated as personalities in home.
